No trip to Lofoten this time

Tomorrow were to be the big day, where we should have left for Lofoten. But unfortunately dad became ill last week, so we had to cancel the trip this time.

The good news are the he is doing a lot better, and hopefully we will get another chance to go there later this year or next year.

But right now there are no plans for any vacation this year. But I’m pretty sure we will end up in Sweden sometime soon, but I will keep you posted.

Vacation is over

I have just finished a great week of vacation in Sweden. I have to tell you that I’m still deeply in love with that country. I have been in Sweden so many times that I have stopped counting a long time ago. I think that it is my parents that have made me addicted. My dad used to work in Sweden in 1955 to 1959 as a glassblower before he returned to Denmark and got his old job at Holmegaard Glassworks back. And ever since he has frequently visited Sweden, and growing up we were up there once every year. And after a period of about 10 years where I absolutely hated going there, I returned and just fell in love.

I can’t say what it is about Sweden that I’m in love with. Maybe it is the nature or maybe it is the people. I just don’t know. But that place are so special to me that I’ve go there at least 3 times every year, and I just need to go there to feel good. But this has been the first time I have seen Sweden in the “winter”. Well not really winter, but the lakes were frozen and we did have a little snow when we were there. But that only make the place more beautiful.

This week has been great. I did a lot of reading and relaxing. I kind of needed that I think. And we did see a lot of great places. We visited the first place dad worked when he first moved there. Made him a little sad I think. But it was fun for me. But the sad thing is that most of the glassworks up there are closing now. Just a few of the big ones still exists such as Kosta and Orrefors, but the little ones he worked at are really slowing down and are more for the tourists now and no real production anymore. And many of them are closing down completely. It is a sad thing. The industry was the foundation of the economic growth in that area. And now it is almost over.

But all that aside we did have a great week. We didn’t get to do any fishing though. The lake was almost frozen, but the ice weren’t strong enough to we could walk on it. I think that I have to go there a little earlier next year in order to try ice fishing. And it would be fun to see real snow again and maybe do a little cross-country skiing again.

Well it is back to work for me tomorrow. I don’t feel up to it, but it is just something I have to do to keep the money coming in. And we will soon go on our next trip. I’ll only have to wait to May the 26th, so that can keep me in good mood. And I will have some time to get my cell phone to work with my laptop, so I can post pictures and stories from the trip as we go along. Instead of just writing small e-mails on my cell phone witch are hard work.

The sun is shining

We are absolutly lucky when it comes to the weather. We decided to drive to the east coast today, and the sun followed us all the way. Sitting in the sun eating lunch, looking at the sea covered in ice is special thing to experience.

For me as a dane it is also a special experience to see the ice melting on the lake, and see the snow disappear, uncovering flowers and green plants.

And it is nice to have the time to see the birds being busy building nests and mating. And have the energy to be excited over the ducks in the pond quack all day long.

First day of spring

The wind is cold, and the clouds block the sun from time to time. But when you get away from the wind, you can feel and smell the spring, and the business of the birds shows it too.

I'm in the southern part of Sweden, and it is beautiful. The lakes are covered with ice and in the shadow the snow still lays. But you can hear it is melting.

I'm really looking forward to this week, and hopefully we will see more of this wonderfull weather.

Getting ready to the new season

It have been awhile since I've have written anything here. The last months have been nothing else but hard work. But things are looking a bit better now.

I'm having the last 2 weeks of vacation from last year right now. This first week I'm just spending at home just trying to clean up the mess. I've just made a minor update on my website, to get ready for some updates from the road on the "BIG TRIP" to Lofoten later this year. More about that in a later post.

This Saturday I'll go to Sweden for a week. Hopefully I'll get a chance to go to Lake Hornborga to watch the cranes. I have been there 2 times before, but it is an overwhelming sight so I'll try to go whenever I have a chance. Hopefully we'll also get a chance to do some ice fishing. I'll never tried that before so if it is possible to do that I'll want to try that too. And I have to take some photos. It has been a long time since I've last had the energy to do that.

I'll keep you posted and hopefully I'll get a chance to post some pictures from the trip too. I have to test the equipment so I'm sure that it'll work when we leave the next time.

Last day of summer

What a beautiful day. No wind and sunshine. The trees are really beautiful this year. We haven't had a storm yet so all the leaves are still on the trees. I can't remember the last time we have had such an explosion of colours.
Today we took a drive around the area. We visited the beach in Lild, one of the last places in Denmark where the fishing boats are pulled up on the beach after the daily fishing trip are done.
We ended up eating lunch in Aalborg on the east coast.
It have just started raining so it is really nice to sit here in front of the fireplace well relaxed after a swim in the pool.

It's raining as expected

It is November and this month is starting with typical danish weather, except it is a bit warmer than normal.
The ending of the daylight saving time seems harder than normal, perhaps because I don't work this year.
I still enjoy the beach and the wind. I'm sure that I could get use to live this close to the ocean.
None of us have used the pool yet, but I have planned to take a swim later today.
Time to get some lunch, and then a walk on the beach, later this afternoon we are taking my aunt to the bus station.

Finally we've arrived

2 days of driving (to be honest it could be done in 8 hours, but then we wouldn't have had the great might in the hotel) and we arrived yesterday afternoon.
It still amazes me how the landscape changes the more west you come, I'll post some pics when I come home.
We have just finished a walk on the beach. It were great to get some fresh air and it have been a long time since I have been walking by the ocean, so I did enjoy that a lot.

Getting ready for vacation

I have finally finished packing. I have to learn to not take this much luggage with me. I mean I'll be gone for a week, and I have clothes for at least 3 weeks, but you'll never know what will happened, right?

I have to work 4 hours tomorrow and then we'll head for a night in Silkeborg at the Scandic Hotel. I think I do need a hotel stay right now, well I always do need a hotel stay.
Saturday we'll head for the northern part of Jylland in a, hopefully, great beach house with indoor pool.

And I'm looking forward to spend some time with the family.

I will keep you posted during the week, and I'll post some pictures when I come back home.

I do a lot of traveling in the Scandinavian countries, and in this blog I will write about my "adventures", the life "on the road" and the ups and downs.
